Cops need to listen better...

On September 15, 2010 something happened to me, that not a lot of people can say they have done.

So I was at work (El Bakery) at 5am, not feeling well the whole day. I eventually got sick to where I couldn't stand to be there much longer. On my way home, feeling like shit, I was driving along Manchester (neighborhood will remain anon) a oh so smart and lovely angered driver decided to cut me off and slam on his brakes because the car in front of him did the same. So instead of slamming on my brakes, I darted over into the right lane because I knew it was clear (Thank You Dad for teaching me to always look in my mirrors to see what's going on around me at all times...).

Keep in mind, I'm not feeling well, all the sudden I see the one thing you hate to see while driving; red and blue flashing lights with a sirens following you. Great, I just avoided hitting a car, and I'm the one who gets pulled over. Cop proceeds to tell me I didn't use my blinker. He obviously saw the whole thing go down, he should know I didn't have time to turn my blinker on instead of hitting a car. Geeez, cops.

At this point I was really annoyed, but more or less I was feeling really nauseous, could feel my face become ghost-white. So I grabbed my door handle wanting to open my car so I could throw up. The cop put his hand on his gun because I put my hand on my door handle, and told me "not to move". I told Mr. Mean Cop Man I was going to get sick, as normal they don't give a crap, so he continued talking to me. I was overwhelmed with that not-so-fun I'm going to get sick feeling, I warned him I was going to get sick.

Out I put my head of the window to the up. The cop didn't listen, so I threw up on his shoes and the bottom of his pants. He was not happy, neither was I because I just threw up. So the speechless cop starred at me, I looked up at him with my teary pukey eyes while saying "Sir, I warned you.." The man was absolutely pissed but couldn't say anything because I did warn him and he didn't listen.

So end of the story, he told me to go home and I got out of a ticket.

Moral of the story: Listen if people warn you, and throwing up on cops is pretty hilarious.

Summer wrap- up

Even though it was a rather low-key summer, it still had many highlights. Full of many laughs with friends & family, watching talented musicians is always a favorite past time.

Re-capping the bands I saw this summer (just so I can remember):
Mumford & Sons
The Avett Brothers
Trevor Hall
Freelance Whales
LouFest Artists (2-day music festival in our very own Forrest Park!):She & Him, Jeff Tweedy, Carolina Chocolate Drops, Alejandro Escavado, and maaaany more!)
Phoenix
Elizabeth Cook
Flaming Lips
Slightly Stoopid

So many local bands I can't even count...

Live music is what keeps me going, if I don't get my fulfillment of it, I get slightly agitated. We don't need that. ..ever. Long Live Music!

Mountains: Hills with Trees...

Before I start ranting and raving about my Colorado trip with Cunningham family, I would like to state that yes, I didn't give mountains or Colorado much of a chance before this. Before this trip was ever planned, my family was wanting to take a vacation to Colorado, I opposed so we went to Florida (I do still love beaches!) instead of the beautiful mountains. When I got back from CO a few weeks ago I did tell them I'm sorry for "underestimating the beauty that is in Colorado", or something along those lines.

Now, on to the trip. The best family trip with cousins, aunt and uncle EVER! There was tons to do, and could have stayed another month and still did something new everyday! The weather was so perfect, 70s in the day with sun and 45-50 degrees at night. Couldn't have asked for better weather, well maybe not so many random rain showers and storms on the way home.

What was accomplished while in CO:
*Beer & Bluegrass Festival
*morning hikes
*taking a "Super Slide" down the mountain
*White-water rafting
*drinking almost every night
*making our own pub crawl starting at 12pm ending at 2am, in between was an absinthe bar and a awesome local band.
*many many laughs and inside jokes
*bummed around at the lodge
*scenic hikes
*Almost made it to a BBQ festival but decided to head home.

*catching up with a lot of friends in town. Best memories ever.

I just want to go on a ramble for a minute. Blues music makes me so happy. I know that it's mostly depressing, she/he cheated on me, my man got taken away, etc. etc. But there is something about how raw, true, and heartfelt that gets me. It also helps when I love that low-key vibe, guitar, bass and all. It's just perfect summer weather music. Sit outside in a beer-garden, drink a nice cold brew, and listen to some live Blues music. Sounds like a perfect night to me. And bluegrass...don't even get me started on it just yet...that'll be for another blog time. Yes, it's true, I'll talk about how I used to run at 6am a couple summers back while listening to bluegrass. PUMPS ME UP!

In you are around St. Louis, go see Kim Massie. It'll be a good time, for sure!

kids these days.

Babysitting for five children ages ranging from 9 months old to 9 years old is rather entertaining, I must say.

George (3 yr old): brings up a plastic toy stethoscope
Me: Oh Geirge, are we going to play doctor?!
G: Yes we are!
Me: Well, what do I have? Am I sick?
G:...Well, of course you're sick...You have a vagina.

?..The End.

Oh. Story number 2.

Sitting out at the pool. Normally i love to hear birds chirping, but for some reason this point and time of the day I was just flat out annoyed. So, thinking to myself, if I throw this rock in the general vicinity where I hear the chirping, to scare the bird..hopefully the bird will stop. Apparently my aim was on that day because I actually hit the bird and he fell out of the tree. Totally not intentional.

R.I.P. little annoying bird.

One of my favorite poems ever..

Mud Puddles and Dandelions - Unknown

When I look at a patch of dandelions,
I see a bunch of weeds that are going
to take over my yard.
My kids see flowers for Mom
and blowing white fluff
you can wish on..

When I look at an old drunk
and he smiles at me,
I see a smelly, dirty person
who probably wants money
and I look away.
My kids see someone
smiling at them and they smile back.

When I hear music I love,
I know I can't carry a tune
and don't have much rhythm
so I sit self-consciously and listen.
My kids feel the beat and move to it.
They sing out the words.
If they don't know them,
they make up their own.

When I feel wind on my face,
I brace myself against it.
I feel it messing up my hair and
pulling me back when I walk.
My kids close their eyes,
spread their arms and fly with it,
until they fall to the ground laughing.

When I pray,
I say thee and thou and grant me this,
give me that.
My kids say, "Hi God!
Thanks for my toys and my friends.
Please keep the bad dreams away tonight.
Sorry, I don't want to go to Heaven yet.
I would miss my Mommy and Daddy."

When I see a mud puddle
I step around it..
I see muddy shoes and dirty carpets.
My kids sit in it.
They see dams to build,
rivers to cross
and worms to play with.

I wonder if we are given kids to teach or to
learn from?
